My Jewish Learning is the go-to online Jewish reference about Jewish concepts, practices, holy days, texts and more. Everything from short overviews to in-depth probes.
The Hadar Institute has lectures and articles and courses at a serious intellectual level with a focus on social and ethical themes.
The Mussar Institute offers courses, groups, and resources from the Jewish tradition of ethical introspection called Mussar. Mussar involves study of Jewish texts and personal practices that help us understand our own unique moral-spiritual psychology in order to identify and overcome the obstacles preventing our soul from living up to the ethical standards of Torah.
Two other podcasts that might interest you! One is kind of like this one — it’s called Verses and relates Broadway show tunes with stories in the Bible! The hosts are Rabba Rachel Kohl Finegold in Montreal and Anita Silvert in Chicago. Here it is on Spotify and Apple. Another is Chutzpod! — “ancient texts for modern times” on a variety of relevant current themes, hosted by Rabbi Shira Stutman and actor Joshua Malina, who co-hosted the “West Wing Weekly” podcast.
Svara is a traditionally radical yeshiva (Jewish study center) dedicated to the serious study of Talmud through the lens of queer experiences. Online resources as well as on-site courses and trainings.
Sefaria has all kinds of complete Jewish texts, and most of the major ones have a full English translation. The translation-with-explanation for the Talmud is particularly good; the translation of the Torah is fine but shouldn’t be the only one you consult.
Daf Yomi (“daily page”) is a practice in the Jewish world of reading a page of the Talmud every day in sync with everyone else who is doing this worldwide. It takes about seven and a half years! Hadran: Advancing Talmud Study for Women has a lesson for the daily page on video or as a podcast. Take One is podcast put out by Tablet for every page or two, usually a 6-7 minute conversation related to some specific theme on the page. You never know what a page of Talmud will bring up even if you know the subject of the overall section!
